Behavioral Health Services

We offer outpatient services for Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of  Hearing children, adolescents, and adults in Southeastern Michigan and for persons that are primary caretakers of someone in their household that is Deaf, Deaf-Blind, or Hard of Hearing. Clients will receive services from therapists fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).

Our Resources and Services Include

  • Individual therapy
  • Couples therapy
  • Family therapy
  • Group counseling for substance abuse problems or behavioral health problems
  • Substance abuse services for those involved in the criminal justice system
  • Referral to other resources and services at our agency, such as direct services (case management).

Values

Addressing disparities in behavioral health services by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health resources and services to Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing individuals in Southeastern Michigan.
  • Accessible: Provide any reasonable accommodations to reinforce a client’s participate during the therapy process
  • Awareness: Seek to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing communities
  • Culturally Competent: Respect the unique culture of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind, and Hard of Hearing communities
  • Person Centered: Honor the personal preferences and abilities of the consumer via Person Centered Planning
  • Confidentiality: Clients have the right to privacy and confidentiality as well as security of their personal information

Background Information

  • Clinical Supervisor: Kathleen Mitchell, MSW, LMSW is a Deaf social worker providing specialized services to the Deaf Community.  Kathleen has over 25 years of experience will be overseeing DEAF C.A.N.! Behavioral Health Services to ensure that the  highest quality services are being provided.
  • Clinical Social Worker: Dylan Secord, MSW, LLMSW is currently serving as a clinical social worker at DEAF C.A.N.!
